Report
The via ferrata can be reached by car from Sion in about 10 minutes in a south-easterly direction. Follow the road towards Nax until you see a sculpture (a climbing iron man) marking the entry point – parking is available there. The Via Ferrata du Belvédère earns its name for good reason. Viewed from a distance it looks unspectacular, but all the more surprising are the impressive views down to Sion and across the western Rhône valley that reward you from the middle section onward.
The overall relatively short tour (approx. 1 hour, approx. 220 m elevation) starts quite steeply and follows the most rocky line upward without major traverses. The obligatory rope bridge typical of modern via ferratas is of course not missing here, though it is only 3 metres long. In the upper third the terrain unfortunately becomes very flat and grassy, but the steel cable continues all the way to the exit, which provides the necessary safety when climbing with children or in wet conditions. To return to the car park, keep right at the exit and follow the serpentine path through the forest downhill. The route is rated K3 (C/D) but is also perfectly suitable as an introductory via ferrata for the sporty beginner and – with an experienced companion – for children too.
